You can have a brace of ducks or a flock. If they sitting in a group of water they're called a raft.

one of my little quail d'anvers chicks that arrived from McMurray has what looks like the start of cross beak. Now I have to decided whether I want to do weekly trimming or cull. This part of chickenry sure stinks.

Cull. You only have to to it once. Trimming is on going hassle.

Hi, everyone.

Popping in to remind everyone about the recognition awards.

We want to validate the efforts and contributions of our members who give sooo much. This community is special because of the efforts of its members, and we all want to honor that.

NOW: get to nominating, if you haven't already!

Remember, each BYC member may nominate one member each month for each of the three recognition categories: BYC Friend, BYC Educator, and BYC Spirit. That's three nominations each month, and we want to see more submissions!

Use the Nomination Submission Form to make your suggestions.

Thanks!

I have a broody!

Just 4 eggs under her but hopefully they will fare better under my LF blue cochin than in my incubator of death.

Also, my EE rooster has an abcessed foot and despite home remedies, it's not improving and my thread on the Injuries/Disease is being ignored. So ... how much injectable penicillin to give him and how the HECK do you give a chicken an injection?

Great news on the broody hen !!! I had a blue cochin that was an excellent mama...none of the eggs I put under her last year were hers but she happily hatched them and protected them. So cute.
No idea on the foot issue...someone will help I'm sure.

It sounds like your bird has bumblefoot. It's a staph infection caused by a cut or puncture to the foot (more common with heavier birds). Soak the affected foot for 10 minutes in a hot water/epsom salt solution. Remove scab and prise the wound open. Treat with hydrogen peroxide, dry, wrap with gauze and tape. Place bird in warm dry area. Give bird an antibiotic. The easiest injection site is probably the breast, halfway between keel and wing. Spread feathers, wipe with alcohol, insert needle approximately 1/4 inch.
