First time Chicken owner - just got my chicks.

COMPLETE PROOF! That chicken math gets to ya, it gets to ya man
Oh your telling me! I know all about it! UGHH I love them but 95% of my day is here chickie chickie! Even MY BOYFRIEND who dislikes birds is calling them and swooning over newly born chicks! Which I have to go check on right after this post there hatching as we speak! Been up all night with the little fellers! It gets to ya!!! And my grandparents love birds as much as I do...they even went as far as to hatch an OSTRICH last year for crying out loud...successful but OMG was that not needed! They have over im going to guess 1000 birds! All looked after well and maintained properly of course..as my grandpa is a bird NUT job <3

Dont get me started on HERBERT! haha thats what we named him. He is SOOO LOUD! I love him and he sleeps in a camping trailer..NO WORD OF A LIE..that is heated and so on..hes like my grandparents kid they never had! haha Yeah hes a sweetie until hes cranky then he can be a really ostard..he likes to kick and bite when hes in a bad mood! My grandpa has so many birds its pointless to count! Im not even kidding when I say if you pull in his driveway the birds are the one blocking it. But I mean he loves them so much he built 2 barns SPECIFICALLY for the birds. -_- there is chicken math and then there is my grandpa!

You guys are too funny... but it's true. We started off with 5, gained two from a friend, lost one {not sure why}, and now it's time to cull the flock so we bought 5 more. they are 11 days old and starting to grow their tail fearthers.

SEE! These people are just backing me up! We ordered 30 chicks, a lot came dead, so then we ordered 56 chicks!!! a lot of them died too (postal offices fault), well anyways we have a rooster and some hens and if they have chicks were keeping ALL pullets...

Hi, welcome to BYC. Your chicks are adorable. My babies are scheduled for delivery Feb 29, some from Meyer and some from Ideal. I agree with the other posters lol chickens are addicting. I started out only going to get 8 hens and 1 rooster, now i am expecting 8 hens, 1 rooster to keep, 8 meat birds, plus 8 silkies for fun. We will then let them breed and have babies. I went from having a small coop to fit my 8 hens to now almost doubling the chicken run and adding another 8'x8' onto the coop. I am also adding a seprate coop for the meat birds lol. I just picked up 150 ft of fencing yestarday.
