FIRST TIME chicken owner

I think it's a fascinating setup, and I like how it mimics nature and how chickens would live in the wild. Their coop is like roosting in a tree, but with a roof and security all around. Love it!!!

I still can't see in the pics how they access the coop, except from it looks like a tree branch or roost in the run that's nearer to the ledge. Is that how they get up? My chickens could never fly up that high from the ground, but they are somewhat heavier birds bred for both meat and eggs. Are yours lightweight breeds that can fly well?

Where are you located? What are your winters like?

Hello, and welcome to BYC. If birds are frequently changing their sleeping spots, they are probably being harassed by predators. Yes, owls will enter a coop searching for birds.
I ment birds in the wild….wild chickens if you know if they change the spots to keep safe. The owl question is if she enters the coop she can not see inside? Do you know any specific situation it happened? Since I camouflaged the entrance the owls do not sit by the coop anymore and the way my chickens seek safety it seems they do know what works. I do know the owl will enter the coop she can see inside. Thank you for your time.

SE Oklahoma. Winters are usually mild, was 9F all week once though. They are 10 weeks old and can fly up 3 feet if they need too. Now if they are out of the run they jump on the blue chair or directly from the ground on the stick over the run fencing under the coop, than down on the branch and up to the coop. I think it confuses the birds of prey. I hope they will be able to get over 5’ when they are 6 months old. I have seen them fly 4’ up but the aming is not good yet.
