I woke up this morning to chirping and was surprised to find one of the eggs I had in the incubator actually hatched. I panicked as this was my first time hatching an egg. i literally panicked. I dont know if she is ok. She is laying in the incubator chirping and not really moving as much as the videos Ive watched of baby chicks hatching. how do I know if she is okay. The repeated chirping is bothering me. COuld I have harmed her by openeing the incubator and holding her in my ammature panic state?
I feel horrible.

They lay around a lot the first day. They chirp a lot when they are alone. They may not need to the first day but the earlier they eat and drink, the better. If you have the brooder set up, move it to the brooder. It will chirp regardless of where it is until it gets friends.
You likely didn't hurt the chick, they aren't that fragile. However you potentially hurt the remaining eggs if they had pipped. Opening drops humidity almost instantly.
What day were they due to hatch?

Thank you so much for getting back to me soo soon. Yesterday was day 21. She must have hatched ocer night. WHen I checked before bed there the egg looked like it was still fully intact. There is only one other egg in there with her. Since it was my first time incubating, I only put 3 in. One of them didnt develop. When I was checking the egg to see if the chick was forming I accidently dropped the egg. It looked like it started to develop but didnt finish. I dont know about the remaining egg.

Do I wait and see if the other egg hatches or should I try to hatch it since I may have shrink wrapped her? As of now the baby seems to be getting stronger, but no sign of pipping form the other egg.

She seems to be doing well and getting stronger as the day goes on. Shes still not all fluffy but I think the incubator is too short for her. Is it too soon to move her I tot he broader with the heat lamp?
