Mind you, I use pellets too - my chickens get fermented grower mash in the morning, free choice layer pellets the rest of the day. It's close to a 50/50 split. I choose to provide both feeds as the birds really do like the mash, but pellets are convenient for further on in the day and the birds are less prone to billing it out (as compared to dry mash). Also this lets me easily spread out the feed stations. I think all forms of feed can work depending on how the owners want to manage things.
