Hey, my name is Cris and I'm new to this forum, chickens, and everything in-between! We just got 13 mixed breed chicks 5 days ago. A few of them are about a 5-6 days older than the rest. We raised ducks and other game birds as kids, so I got the beginning stage down pretty good. We are currently converting our old ice fishing house into a coop (perfect since it's already insulated with siding) and building a large adjoined closed run. We're also going to build a large open run. We have a lot of hawks, bald eagles, foxes, and other chicken predators around us, so a lot of effort is being put into making our run and coop safe for our flock. I'm sure to have many questions as I get further into this adventure, so I look forward to learning from and meeting y'all : )

Welcome to BYC, Cris! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Aww your babies are adorable! Love the way they are sleeping. Good luck converting your fishing house into a coop. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask here https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/9/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance

And here is a link on dealing with predators that might be good for you to take a look at https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chicken-predators-pests-how-to-protect-treat-your-flock

And if you need any help figuring out the breed or gender of your chicks, feel free to post here https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Good luck with your chicks!
