Im so excited I had to share . I have a lovely pekin hen sitting on 11 eggs , shes done so well for a first timer. She only leaves the eggs for 10 mins every 2 or 3 days to eat and drink etc and today is day 21. I have never disturbed her since i moved the whole nesting box into a big crate to give her dark and privacy on day 2. I saw an egg had been ejected onto the floor on day 10 leaving 11, I haven‘t disturbed her to candle the eggs as I though it was best to let mother nature do her thing. However today I lifted her side very slightly and saw an adorable little yellow chick has hatched so far. Crossing my fingers that we have a good hatch rate but I’ll be happy with whatever we get😁

I will upload photos once shes finished and they are on visible . At the moment the chick is under mum

quick update . We still have just one chick. Mum is sitting 24/7. I put water and food right in front of her as she will not leave the nest . I hope at least 1 more hatches so the sole chick has a friend .

Congratulations! Following for updates! 🥰

I decided to steal candle an egg and found it empty so 3 by 3 took the rest which were all empty😕. Better that my hen gets on rearing the one chick than sitting on empty eggs.
Both the Roger Rooster and the Hersey the hen are young so maybe we will have a better hatch next time. For now this little chick will give us some experience. The 8 month old pullet I posted about died a few days ago so im crossing my fingers the chick is a hen nor a Rooster 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
