I put 9 silkie eggs in the incubator this morning. HOPING that all goes well, and I end up with 9 of those little fuzzy butts in 21 days or so. I have actually attempted to hatch a few quail eggs a while back, and have no idea what went wrong. But it had to of happened toward the end and close to hatching time, cause when I checked the eggs...there WERE babies inside that didn't make it. I think it may have had something to do with the humidity levels or something. Cause temp always seemed to be perfect. Needless to say.....I was heart-broken and didn't even want to attempt again until now.

I have a few chickens now, a few EEer's that are sweet as can be.......but have always wanted silkies. I have had a hard time finding someone close to my area that had any, or if they did when I called they had already sold them. Soooo......I took the plunge again and bought a few to hatch. I've studied so many different things on what to do, and what not to do, and what if's, and what-evers??? LOL I HOPE that I got it down this time. I have a very nice homemade incubator, and have had it up and going for about a week...just checking out different circumstances as to how the temp and humidity levels will change. And since things have held steady and in the range it needs to be, at 8:45 this morning I put the eggs in and have been watching like a hawk to make sure things STAY steady and in the norm.

So in the next 21 days or so....I am sure I will come up with some of the craziest questions you may have ever heard. LOL So for all of you that have done this a few times...I would appreciate any advice you can give me. I just love this site!! LOL

I do know it is much easier to maintain temp and humidiy levels if the room is kept at 70 degrees. I have mine bator and hatcher in my laundry/computer room. I have a small electric heater that keeps the room temp constantly the same so it is not sucking heat out of the bator. It has been running for two months now with my staggered hatchings and it has kept the same 99.5 degrees this whole time. Keeping good records of each hatching is all we have to learn from. Never give up and good luck.
