I was about to attempt my first hatch of buff orpingtons and barred rocks. I had read that the orpingtons can have difficulties with fertilization due to their extra fluffy backsides. To tell you the truth, my barred rock roosters look just as, if not more, fluffy in the rears. I thought I had to take my eggs to the candling point (9-10 days) to know if they were fertile, but now I see a lot of posts about the "bulls-eye" on the yolks.

I'm not seeing anything of the sort. So, my ?s are....

1) Do I go ahead and trim around the vent? and, if so,

2) What's the best way to go about this?

I appreciate any helpful comments.
