I just want to find some good, interesting eggs!!

just got a note back from the person i bought my bbs orpington eggs from saying that she's had some that are having a hard time getting out of their shells and that she's listened for peeping, then if she heard anything, she's opened up the shells and released the chicks but only after 22 or 23 days have passed.

anyone heard of this?

anyone tried the float test method?

can i do a temperature test with a digital thermometer?

We should do a "March 2011 First Time Hatchers" so that way we keep everyone together being that we are all first timers now but I'm guessing it will stagger for our second hatch

Oh and I need some advise on what I should order for eggs. I am debating on a few different breeds.

It's so hard to decide, isn't it? I'm afraid I'm going to be stuck with what I have for now, since I'm a city-dweller with limited space. Fortunately, we're at the end of a cul de sac and our backyard overlooks a greenway with a creek and loads of wildlife so we're not your typical urban lot. And our neighbors were already fond of us even before we started giving them free, fresh eggs.

I am planning on hatching some of my own eggs after I find a home for the extras from this hatch. (

any progress?

Hi there, Latebloomer!!! I put 23 eggs into lockdown yesterday afternoon. I'm using a Genesis 1588 for my hatcher and temp is holding very nicely. I filled both channels and humidity is holding around 64%. I've placed a sponge under the vent hole just in case I need to bump it up a little. I keep staring at them. LOL! I'll keep you posted.
How did your hatch turn out? And what bator were you using?

That is what saved my hatch!! My humidity went down a lot, but with the sponge I was able to manage it very well.
