First Time Hatching Anyone With Me??

They are soooooo cute.
Sorry you had to X out one. I'm not sure I could do it. I just saw the discovery channel last night on what the Tibetens do to their dead & am still having visions.

I was on another thread and the information was just too much.
Last week, I had one that just died on his own & that was hard enough. Good thing my DH was home to take care of it .

Not something I was ready for.
I guess feed the mommy bird well with breeder food so the chicks have a better chance of hatching healthy.

I just put a few in the hatch box today & a few new ones in the incubator.
It might be my last batch for a while. One duck is molting and the other has gone broody over a blue easter egg.

Nope...I will wait till she comes out to feed and shut the door behind her for the entire day, take away the easter egg and when she goes back home at night...its gone.
It takes her about 10 days to lay again though. The poopy gets better after a couple of days.
But if she does it again, I might actually give her some eggs to try.
I haev too many ducklings running amuck anyways.

New batch in the hatch box...so far only 4 ducklings have hatched. 2 of the eggs are calls and I've never had calls before. There are 12 eggs total.

The calls were alive when I put them in, but so far...nothing.
The blue eggs are also...nothing.
Come on duckies, hatch.
I have 3 black & creams, and one blue & cream.

Mine just went into lockdown at noon. Hatch day is Monday the 18th. Only 7 of the 12 eggs were still alive when I just candled them. One was definitely rotten and stuck to the egg turner. I won't leave them in there so long next hatch!
Since our weather keeps changing, the temp in the bator keeps changing. Hope that's ok??? I have all the vents open plus a tube sticking between the cover and the bottom of the bator to make another vent. I'm trying to keep the temp between 99 & 100 without touching the thermostat so it doesn't go too low at night/early morning (97.6 is the lowest it's gone so far). My humidity so far is at 65% with all the reservoirs full and a wet sponge under a vent so I can keep it wet. How high can the humidity get without hurting the chicks?

at lockdown i had humidity levels into the seventies and briefly the low eighties, although you should be fine at sixty-five

I hear peeping coming from my eggs!! Two of them were moving this morning.
My temps are staying between 99 & 100 but closer to 99 most of the time. I'm having trouble keeping the humidity above 65% even with all my reservoirs full and a bowl of water with a sponge in it in the bator (Little Giant with fan). Latebloomer, how were you able to keep your humidity so high?? Our weird weather isn't helping matters either. Yesterday we had a lot of rain, bad thunderstorms and tornado's so the humidity was high. Today we have sunshine, cool weather and a lot of wind. The room the bator is in is warm to help keep the temperature stable but I guess there isn't much humidity in the air right now.

i also have a LG and I make sure to keep the sponge under one of the little holes. This way I can use a syringe (without needle) to drop very hot water through the hole onto the sponge without opening the incubator. I just do it when I need to boost the humidity up. Also when that chicks start hatching they seem to make the humidity go up a bit.

You might also run a humidifier in the room with the incubator to help bring the humidity up. Just a thought.

Good Luck on the hatch!!
