It has also been discussed, with other Chinese Blue-Breasted Quail breeders and owners that the red can affect the eye sight of the quail.

It might make them less aggressive because it hinders their eyesight or ??? but do whatever you want they are your birds not mine...

yes the other egg is a cortunix. Thanks for the headsup on the red heat lamp. Their all do'n good and should have 6 more in a few days along with some buff barahma, silkie's & mille fluer. The cortunix egg was a dud

Silkies? Cool, I have 2 of them that lives indoors with me they are spoiled rotten. Be sure to post pics of them. Here's on of my silkies. Pheobie aka silkie diva. She has a bling'd out leg band. Lol

Yes, I make my own. I've had a few request from people who wanted some for their chickens lol

i dont understand why u could't use a red heat lamp ? u can adjust the heat by lowering or raising the lamp, they give off better warmth than a normal bulb. Why would poultry supply stores sell them ? Are the red bulbs only harder on button quail eye's or all quail chicks. Birds see color, i would think it would be easier on their eye's than a bright white bulb, it's definatly easier on my eye's . I ve always used red heat bulbs on all my chicks and they seem to have no problems with finding the food or water.

I only have buttons and I would think it is because of the size of the eye. Red heat lamps are generally used for reptiles and chickens, I do not know if other "bird" breeders use them or not. I just posted Jodi's recommendation. Like I said before use what you want.
