i assume #12 is dead?
Yep, it moves freely. It just looks like a black blob at this pointIt does appear to be a quitter. When you gently twist the egg does the embryo inside swirl around the egg freely? When the blood vessel recede the contents of the egg become very loose seeming.

A total of 5 eggs appear to be dead
Sometimes I do, but all the other eggs have very obvious movement so I usually only candle them from the sides. Here are pictures of the dead ones
Are you also candling thru the air cell in the fat end of the egg?
Okay, they look alright as far as the air cells go. As for the dead eggs, they were definitely dead and I opened them up. 3 looked like they had died around day 7-8 and the other 3 looked like they had died yesterdayI can't see well enough to be able to determine viability from the candling pictures but the air cell development does look good to me for day 10. As far as air cell development here are a couple of graphics as well as Silkie eggs from the top and side that I marked on Day 0, 7, 15, & 18, I had a 100% hatch when I did that experiment so it's a good example of air cell development but I realize it's easier to see in the digital images.
