Remove the hatched chicks once dry and move to a brooder that regulates temperatures above 90 degrees. The rule of thumb is 95 for the first week, 90 the second, decreasing by 5 degrees every week for 6 weeks. I am not a stickler on this. I let the chicks decide what temp they want by placing the heat lamp close to the bottom of the brooder. They move closer or further away based on desire and need. Once they are 2-3 weeks old, and its 80 degrees outside, out they go. Even if night time temps drop below 80 they can huddle together to keep warm. I like low maintenance. Despite going against the accepted norms, these techniques do not affect my survival.
