Hi everybody :frow

I'm purchasing 2 dozen Coturnix hatching eggs this evening and this is our first time hatching and raising quail, and only the second time I've hatched anything in an incubator.

When we confirmed this morning I found out the eggs were collected last night. Is there any reason to wait to put the eggs in the bator?

I'll be getting it up and running today and I plan to add the eggs and leave them at least 8 hours before any adjustment for humidity. I'm using a Hovabator 1602N with turner and fan.

You need to make sure that your incubator is completely ready to go for temp and humidity. It sounds like the eggs were local, so you don't need to let them sit as you would for shipped eggs as long as they've been handled carefully.

The eggs should be room temp when you add them because if they're cold there will be condensation on them when you add them to the warm incubator.

I have the same setup as you and I have good success with 40% humidity during the main incubation period. I fill channel #1 and then take one of the red plugs out and turn it upside down to cover half of the vent hole. I candle at 14 days and remove the clears.

On our way home with eggs. These are the 9 extras I was given while checking out the guys birds. He just took them out and handed them to me as we went.

Good luck with your hatch, looks like you're off to a great start! What other kinds of birds do you have?

Thanks! We have chickens, 7 hens and one chick that everyone is telling me is a cockerel. Once we add quail we are done adding to the feed bill for a while.

How about you?

Wow, sounds like a full house :gig

I have nothing ready, but I'm pretty sure I have what i need except a small enough feeder. Now I need to get busy in the garden so the chicks will have a home when they're ready.
