As far as I know, you are going to have to wait for your hens to get the urge. My EE was often broody and proved to be a good mom but all the hens that I have had go broody have done it when the weather was warmer but I live in Southern Oregon. Good luck.As far as breeds, I have 1 female Astrolorp, 2 Plymouth Barr Rocks, and 2 Easter Eggers. The Astrolorp did get broody last fall, but I wonder if I just leave some eggs in the nesting box (separated from the rest of the flock), will she turn broody, or do we have to wait until she goes into it herself??
