So this was my first time hatching. This is going to be long but I’ll make it as brief as possible.
Everything went well, 9 chicks. However, one of them hatching extremely sticky. To me it looked like the yolk ruptured before it hatched completely. It was so sticky that I was peeling some of the membrane and shell off the chick after it hatched. That chick hatched yesterday morning. We are now 9:23pm on the second day and the chick is still extremely weak. I’ve given electrolytes by dropper to the beak crease. I did place chick in the brooder with her hatchmates and she ate some, drank some, and explored some. She then started chirping really loud. I went to check and she was under the heat lamp but cold to the touch. I left her a few minutes because I thought maybe she had just climbed under the lamp. A few minutes later she was still not warm. I took her to the couch with me and we sat under my electric blanket. She then quieted and fell asleep. I gave her awhile then gave her some more electrolytes and placed her back in the incubator that I had hooked back up.
Anyway, getting to the point. Is there anything I can do to help her gain strength? What would cause her yolk to rupture prior to or during hatching?
