Thank you for all your great advice. I will be implementing a little bit of all of it. I have a 40 acre racehorse farm with 6 rescue dogs (two are Great Pyrenees) who are great with keeping the predators out. Having said that, they aren't always around the coop and we do have a few fox dens on our property and during the fall winter months the owls perch on the tall trees & electrical poles around the coop. I will start building a hearty and safe enclosure this week. I find this whole chicken thing very exciting.

OK, a day late, but...I have 14 Hens and 1 Rooster...Started with 3 Easter Egger Hens last year. Then my husband decided to build a coop the size of a small mansion (LOL friends were asking if they can move in.) Soooo...along came 11 more hens and a rooster. My rooster is a Buff Orpington, the hens are, Buff Chantecler, Salmon Favorelle, Rhode Island Red, Barnevelder, Welsummer, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Columbian Wyanotte, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex and a Black Copper Maran. Whew...yes, I painstakingly chose each and every one of them, and they ALL have names. We live in Lower Putnam County in New York. My husband will be thrilled that I have a place to go and "Chicken Talk"...he says that ALL I talk about now. But, but, but...I love my chickens!! LOL OK, so I'm hoping all of you will be my new go to for questions and answers. I'll stop now...:/
