first time incubating any tips?

Harley's girl :

When your chicks start to hatch.......DO NOT OPEN THE BATOR!! I can not stress that enough! Everyone wants to open it and watch. My friend just had a very disappointing because her friend would not leave it shut.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Your friend should not have allowed her friend to open the 'bator. I think I would be smacking the hands of anyone who touched my incubators.

My husband doesn't even touch mine!!!!! He might look in through the viewing windows, but he doesn't mess period other than a peek through the window!

To the OP, during the last three days, if you need to add water, I would suggest adding lukewarm water via a straw through one of the vent holes. Put a straw through the vent hole and then use a syringe to put the water down the straw. Another BYC'er suggested that to me and it works great!

well the storm is here and the eggs are in the cellar till tomorrow. went to a swap today and bought 12 eggs as well as my girls gave me more today. will have a pretty full bator. can anybody tell me how much I can expect the humidity to go up after I add the eggs? also does it go back down by itself?

I set 34 eggs this morning. tonight the temp is 99.2 and the humidity is 38. fingers and toes crossed. and so it begins.

today is day 6. I candled the eggs last night and I see veins in alot of them. the air cells are bigger and in some I see a dark mass in the center. the temp runs between 99 and 100. how am I doing? I am also setting up a model 2362n today.

I would follow the instructions that came with the 1588

Do not adjust anything, have your first hatch and then make any adjustments.

Also if you put your gages in different areas inside the bator you will get different readings, I tried that with mine. Directly under the fan read 98.8 and then in a corner it read 101.5 so to hell with it and throw your eggs in and let it happen! lol hehehehe

which tray did you put water in? I have been putting in a few tablespoons at a time. when I add water the humidity goes to the high forties, then within a day it goes down to the twenties. when I first started the bator the humidity was almost fifty with the second tray from the middle filled. I would like it to be 30 to 40 but cannot get it to stay there.
