I've raised chickens from day-old chicks before, and decided to try my hand with incubating fertilized eggs from my sister's hens. I used a brand new Little Giant and opted to turn eggs by hand for the full experience. I learned there are cool spots in the incubator. Eggs around the perimeter got chilly especially. When lockdown time arrived, it seemed most of my 36 eggs were developing well. I had a hard time achieving humidity above 50% tho. On the 2nd day of hatch, I was inspired to put my Zaq essential oils diffuser in the incubator with just water & it popped my humidity up to 88% quickly. I just have to keep refilling the water chamber every 5-6 hours.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Neat idea on getting your humidty up there. Is your incubator a still air incubator? They do sometimes have hot and cold spots because there is no fan to distribute the air. Swapping your eggs around in the incubator when you turn may help so each egg has a chance of being in the middle.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your future incubations. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow
