First Time Incubating. *Pics*

Should you be seeing movement at 14 days i can see veining and the air cell clear fluid on on end and a dark mass where the veining is. the mass moves if you tip the egg not a lot of movement but some. We had the power go out in an ice storm and I am wondering if the eggs are going to make it or not. 4 more days till lockdown so I guess we will see. Hope something works out.

I'm not sure if your eggs are still with you, but give them some more time and we'll all hope for the best

I wanted to offer a 'lessons learned' about my first incubator hatch last Thursday. I used a Hova Bator 1602N with fan. I had so much trouble adjusting it that I almost gave up and threw it out. After finally getting the temp right and the fan to stay on, it has operated perfectly.

Not really thinking it through, I added eggs a week after putting in the first eggs. When my first eggs hatched on Thursday, the little chicks played havoc with the eggs not ready to hatch. I was worried that those eggs wouldn't hatch because they kept being flipped around. I wasn't home, so I asked someone who was home to put the dried chicks under a heat lamp I had set up. Having no experience with baby chicks, they put them too close to the heat and didn't check frequently, so those chicks died from the heat. It was heartbreaking for everyone.

What I learned from this is NOT to mix hatch dates, and to leave the chicks inside the incubator until I can tuck them under a broody hen at night. The 10 who lived are now happy under a Silkie hen. I had a 100% hatch rate for my Welsummers shipped from Tailfeathers in Oregon (thank you Royce), and almost 100% from olive egger bantams from gamebirdsonly in Utah.

I have a really cute picture of my first hatched chick, but I get a message that I don't have permission to attach anything. Can someone tell me how to do that?

Well done Lacey, they are beautiful. I hope your third one hatches :)

My second try at this. Day 7. Out of 15 2 not fertile and 2 blood rings. 11 left. Way better than the first time. LOL. Now to Day 14.
Better luck this time round already, 11/15 is nothing to be sad about.

I'll be hatching with you! I have chicken eggs and quails due to hatch in batches all next week and Turkeys and quail the week after with you. Good luck all round!

The third one was dead in the shell :(
