I have never hatched eggs before but we got an incubator yesterday and I’m wondering if I should clean the incubator and if I should how should I do that? Hatching eggs seem to be really fragile and I’m worried I’ll accidentally kill them. Our incubator holds 22 eggs and is the Harris Farms Nurture Right 360! I’m also planning on hatching eggs from our polish ladies who started laying a couple months ago so I’m concerned that their eggs may be too small for the chicks, does anyone know how much they should weigh so I can make sure it’s ok to try to hatch them? Any tips and advice is welcome!!

I would just use soap and water for the initial cleaning. I use a small amount of bleach mixed with soap and water when I am cleaning it after my chicks have hatched. I then dry it and leave it open for days to make sure the smell is completely gone. I have no idea about the size of polish eggs, but I do know not to use eggs that are abnormally small or too large because the chicks can have trouble orienting themselves to hatch. I have found that incubating chicks is very stressful but at the same time the most rewarding and awesome feelings. Good Luck!

It is new, and doubt there are any bad bacteria hanging around yet. You can clean with soap and water if you wish. Do not immerse any of the functioning parts in water.

Chickens do it all the time, and they do not take prenatal classes.

There is a thread of about 300 post about that incubator. I can search it out if you would like. May tame me a little time. It is a good incubator, IMO.

Not likely too small,,,, My Polish Gals lay MEDIUM EGGS.
I can make sure it’s ok to try to hatch them.
Just try,,,, If they do not hatch,,, it is not a bid loss. :thumbsup
