First time Incubating

@NyxKnocks He has good-looking, full feathering. I like that. I'm interested in seeing how his chicks look. I look forward to seeing how your hatch goes.

I love it too. My blue Cochin hen is heavily feathered too. I’m really looking forward to see how they turn out. I think I only got 6 of her eggs in there, so crossing my fingers. Hoping the heavy feathering is genetic because we had a ROUGH winter here in Ohio, and the Cochins faired best. They do get a bit overheated in the summer though, panting and spending much of their time in the shade or on a cold paver.

Candled an egg, although it’s only day 6. This is Sofia Loren’s egg, she’s a black Sumatra and maybe 3.5 lbs. She lays small eggs but wanted to try to hatch them anyways. She is infatuated with Alfie, even though he’s double her weight.

Pretty eggs! I have a welsummer and a RIR that lay those speckled eggs, too! Also, the matte dark brown eggs, are those from a Penedesenca?

Ok, I candled most of the eggs. I pulled one that was not fertilized (from mottled Houdan hen that Alfie simply won’t mate with, but thought maybe there was a chance some secret action was going on). There are 2 that appear to be quitting, but I left them in just to be sure. They are both eggs of my splash marans hen, her eggs are kinda long and wonky so probably just not meant to be. Everyone else looks good. So, down to 35 eggs in the incubator, might be down to 33 once I recheck around day 10. It was very fun seeing little jumping beans swimming around in there!

I love my Penedesenca’s eggs, def my favorite in my flock. I have 4 of hers in the incubator. Such a delicious color.

Agreed! My rooster is an OE x BCM, I’m eager to see what muddy colors they will make Last year the few I hatched under a broody were all cockerels..
