First time killing chicken. Advice please help

Personally, I have to have the heads GONE! I just think chickens are too pretty and I just cant kill something that tries to look me in the eye while doing it. Hubby does the deed, I do the cleanin!(after the head is gone!)

I just dispatched my first bird last weekend. I did it really early in the morning so she was half asleep (as was I) to make it easier. Since I didn't have a cone, I got a plastic bag, cut the corner off and put her in so her head popped out the hole. This helped immobilize her and she lay her head out on the plank and in one swoop of a hatchet, she was done. Then straight into a bucket so any thrashing would be contained. If you are going to use a hatchet, be kind and sharpen it.
