Ok..those morels in the pic are called "spike morels"...they are definately edible and are absolutely delicious.

The morels that I find are..small gray...black..yellow...and spike...sorry i don't have pics...but you can see them at www.thegreatmorel.com

Thanks that is very cool .. I had a hard time finding definite side by side comparisons... Its raining here again , three whoole days in a row..

Bad for me getting my garden out but hopefully good for more shrooms....

we went morel hunting out at our camp this past weekend and ended up with almost 5 pounds of them. They were just starting. Next weekend we should twice as many. I love hunting for them, but I don't like the taste -- hubby does!

we mostly find the yellow or black morels here in east central indiana. I think the season here is gone though. it only lasts a few weeks. if anyone reads this, and knows, what is the season for morels? I think it moves from south to north as far as dates the morel are available. Where are some places you can find them the most? I don't find the large bunches of them. I only find a few here and there in the woods

This year, the morels are early. We normally start picking them around Memorial weekend. We seem to find them on ridges with shade at some point in the day. We usually find them around balsam and spruce with some birch and poplar mixed in. I've heard on maple ridges, but we very rarely find them there.

my brother went to a little seminar they had here in ohio..he says that morels will grow best around fallen dead ash and elm trees..we have had the best luck with that!
