(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am very new to chickens getting my first brood from someone who's developed a way to morph pullets into roosters (LOL). I currently have 10. Two I know to be roosters. Four more may possibly be roosters. I'll be posting pictures of each of them to find out for sure. I didn't have any clue until the two confirmed ones started cockadoodledooing. The other four sound like they have marbles in their mouths but have the long slender feathers on their saddles. They are supposedly buff orphingtons but I think when I post the pictures, I'll find out from someone what they actually are. I have five eggers and one (rooster) Australorp. Both my known roosters are beauties but I will be sacrificing the other one soon either to another person or to my cat.
My favorite thing about chickens is that they eat insects. I'd prefer they select not to eat my bees but food is food.
I have a great pyranees and a maine coon, both of whom are my indoor companions and guardians.
I found this site when searching for a good coop plan to build in preparation for the winter. Currently, the poultry is sequestered in a ziptie geodesic dome which I move around similar to a chicken tractor.

too many cockerels will result in consistent fighting between them and overwhelm the pullets. The ratio of hens to roosters is generally 1 to 8. Either add more pullets or rehome some cockerels.
