First time Processing chickens *warning graphic pictures*

What an awesome post! Thanks for sharing, the plucker leaves the chickens so clean and unbruised! I still like the feathers on my girls though! They are safe for a while longer I suppose

Blood meal, adds iron.

He lets it dry first then dilutes it with water and sprays it on the garden.

Yeah, you ever read War of the Worlds? LOL They were sucking blood out of people and then spraying it everywhere, as fertilizer for their off-world plants. Sorry I couldn't help but commenting, when I read the blood meal. I'm strange at times I know, I'll go drink my coffee now and try to return to sanity. LOL The movie didn't explain this part very well, but it was one of the few things I remember from reading the book.

My birds must be 'odd'...lol. I pulled them out of the brooder by their winds (right by the shoulder blades near the body) and would then grab their feet. A couple of them flapped so hard they dislocated their wings, and the bone came through the skin. Anyone have this happen? Not to mention the bruising in the wings from flapping. I am also scared that the plucker would tear the skin, like my gloves did...sigh.

The plucker did tear the skin if we left it in too long. We had a couple that were torn but not too bad. You really got to watch while their in there. We had better results putting one chicken in at a time.

Very cool post...

Does it mean anything that I was totally chowing on a chicken sandwich with bacon while being compeletly immersed in the pictures and I didn't even flinch or stop eating?

I hope that means I have a strong stomach and I'll be able to handle doing my own when mine are big enough...
