First time Processing chickens *warning graphic pictures*

Ah-ha! No blood would mean no bruising, wouldn't it.

Hi! Handling the entrails / guts doesn't bother me at all. I have problems with the actual 'killing' part.
I've dressed out many deer and hogs. I skinned and dressed my brother's first deer (he was 11 yrs old and I was 14) because my Dad was working out of town at the time.
I knew what to do --- I had 'read' how to dress out a deer, but never seen it done.

It is the killing that is my 'undoing' --- when I butcher chickens, I have to take a 'certain mindset' (and I still have to go sit and cry after the first group).

I have about 25 cornish x's that are left over from our kid's ag projects. My hubby will be home this weekend and we are gonna try processing them for the first time. I've read alot into it and I think we will go with skinning them. We never eat the skin anyways. I'm not worried about the actual killing but about getting it safely cleaned in a reasonable amount of time. I'm thinking we should only do 10 at a time. Then get the rest in a couple of days. Or should we do all of them at one time since everything will be set up?

If it was me, I'd do them all at once. Sort of like going to the dentist, I'd just want to get it over with.

If it's just the 2 of you then give yourself at least half a day to get it all done.

Maybe we were slow but between four of us we did 25 chickens in 4 hours.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think my hubby will be much help. He can't touch anything dead. I'll probably need to have my 14 year old help me.

Thanks!

Yes, get the 14 year old. Small hands would be good for digging out the hard to reach innards. My sausage fingers had a hard time getting in there sometimes. I couldn't seem to get the knack of the lung scraper either.
