First Time Raising Chicks!(Pics included) - Day 7: Movement!

Hi Backyard Dove,
This time I bought some eggs from a friend near by and I also have some from my flock of bantams. I wanted some blue and green eggs for color diversity. I have one Americana, "Crazy Daisy" but for some reason she just stops laying for months at a time. I dont get it. She lays a beautiful green egg when she does lay. Thats why we call her Crazy Daisy, she really is a nut! She thinks she is a little handyman. Whenever we go down to the coop to do a project she so wants to help.I can just picture her with a little tool belt on LOL

Your little Cochin Layla looks adorable. How old is she? I have never heard of that breed. I love Cochins, they seem to be very mild mannered and easy going.

It sounds like you raise other birds? Doves and pheasants? Are they just for pets?

My Americana likes to pick and choose when she lays too. I got her hoping she'd lay green/blue eggs, but after laying a few eggs she's been laying white eggs ever since :(

She's not a Cochin, she's a Booted Bantam or d'Uccle. She's going to be a year old this month. Booted Bantams are apparently a rare breed of chicken, I hadn't heard of them when I got them otherwise I would've gotten more. I actually only wanted to buy silkie chicks, but the lady who was selling them said Booted Bantams are good chickens too. I love my Booted Bantams, whenever I go to her cage Layla will run up to me! She likes to be held and sit in your lap. Booted Bantams are also adorably small. I couldn't believe that there are chicken breed that could be smaller than silkies!

Yes, I raise a few kinds of doves, Red Golden pheasants, and quails. I don't really breed them for profit, they're my pets and I love raising animals. Whatever money I get from them is just to help pay for their feed. I mostly use my doves for incubating quail eggs now though. I'd like to breed and raise mammals, but I've got no luck in breeding mammals it seems
