I just got some Osceola wild Turkey poults and I am really excited. They seem to be eating and drinking well. Just wondering if there’s anything I should now in raising a breed like this especially since I’m a beginner and I am just really excited to finally get some turkeys since I’ve been wanting them for years :celebrate

Have you checked with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to get the permit you need to have in order to have wild turkeys?

I haven’t called yet, but I do have the right paperwork for getting them. But thank you for reminding me and I do have their number for my area.

I just wish there was more info in the wildlife and parks department websites about raising and keeping gamebirds expect in just hunting and shooting em. 😂
Their web sites leave much to be desired.

Here, the game warden comes out and does a site inspection before they will issue a permit. They want to make sure that you aren't going to have escapees.

As far as raising them, they need a high protein turkey or game bird starter just like any other poults need for the first 6 to 8 weeks..
