First time Turkey owner

I just got some Osceola wild Turkey poults and I am really excited. They seem to be eating and drinking well. Just wondering if there’s anything I should now in raising a breed like this especially since I’m a beginner and I am just really excited to finally get some turkeys since I’ve been wanting them for years

Have you checked with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to get the permit you need to have in order to have wild turkeys?

I haven’t called yet, but I do have the right paperwork for getting them. But thank you for reminding me and I do have their number for my area.

I just wish there was more info in the wildlife and parks depernent websites about raising and keeping gamebirds and not in just hunting and shooting em.

Their web sites leave much to be desired.

Here, the game warden comes out and does a site inspection before they will issue a permit. They want to make sure that you aren't going to have escapees.

As far as raising them, they need a high protein turkey or game bird starter just like any other poults need for the first 6 to 8 weeks..
