First time with a broody and eggs! Hatch with me! I need advice!

Candling photos!!! I've got three totally differently looking eggs!
This one I'm not sure of- Day 6- looks like nothing distinct.

This one is definatley good!! The picture isn't great- but in real life, you can see veins and a wiggly baby in there!

This one is my bad egg- blood ring since day 4. Leaving it with Gesine til next week for good measure.

I would say yes, leave them all three with her and see what happens. Development can differ a lot early on depending on location, temperature etc. Chin up!

Babies usually don't develop for important reasons earlier on. Genetics etc play a big role. If one strand of DNA is copied wrong than it may not continue to grow. The others may be just fine

Only one week left! I'm so excited for my little mama!

She only leaves her nest every few days to poo...and man are they whoppers!

Can't wait!

Black broody hatched chicks. She left the remaining 3 eggs to tend to young chicks, so they are in the incubator. One is hatching now. Here she is with one that hatched early...on day 19. Today is day 21, but my experience with Sumatra's is they tend to all hatch on day 20.

I had one broody last year I did move her to another area because she kept getting kicked out of her nest was trying to hatch eggs in 3 nest boxes I gave her 2 eggs one hatched. unfortunately we had a weak spot in our broody coop stray cat got the chick.

I am hoping to have another broody this year. I just left her alone last year made sure she had food and water and checked on a couple of times a day. I knew if she got up the broody poop

I tried to candle a couple of times but gave up. Just let nature take its course it was so fun.

Hi, I just found your thread. We're also letting our broody BO set on a clutch of 5 Blue Marans eggs we got from someone locally. "Karin" hatched out 4 chicks last year and started to go broody about a week and a half ago, so we thought we try it again. We're on day 6 today. The eggs are so dark that don't think we'd see anything if we candled. We keep her in our brooder/grow out area of our coop. I, too, take her out once a day for a break, because last time, I never saw any indication that she was moving off her nest. We'll be putting up our chicken yard divider and opening the hatch door to her compartment this weekend so that she can have more access to the yard, if she wants. Good luck with everyone's broodies.

Ahhh!!! I didn't know so many people had replied! yea!!
I think this is Day 13 for me? Boy- time flies!
Gesine best buddy Paula must be jealous, because now SHE wants to be broody! And my silkie Claire keeps trying to lay eggs on top of her! Sheesh! I guess it's spring- so they are prone to this more now??
Stoneykill- love the pic of your black broody!!!
Everybody else doing good?

I moved her on day 5 from coop to my bedroom. The big hens were kicking her off the nest and laying in her nest. I just put her nest/eggs in a modified crate. I took her out 2 times daily until lockdown on day 19...then did not move or touch her. This was my first time experience. Next time, I will try to have her a secluded spot in the coop secured... i have to do some coop modifications soon!!!

Still hoping that egg #2 hatches! it is pipped and zipped, so:fl

So it's a day on the front end loader, using a Gravely with a plow, and if there is time, dig a hole with the backhoe.
