Hi! I've lurked forever and thought I should probably post as my chicks will be here in 3 weeks!

This is my flock, provided everyone arrives in good health and there are no surprise roosters.

1 RIR
1 Dominique
1 Delaware
1 Buff Orpington
2 Bantam Black Frizzle Cochin (I could NOT resist, they are too cute!)

I tried to pick breeds that should get along, be okay with more confinement than free ranging, be good producers of eggs, have good dispositions, and be able to withstand a wide variety of temperatures. Like, 0-100 degrees.
Thoughts? The brooder is set up and holy smokes we need to start on the coop, like NOW!

I'm super excited, I've wanted chickens since I was a little girl and my grandmother jokingly said we could keep some in her garage. Here we are 30 something years later....

In any event, I just wanted to say hi! I'm sure I'll have a million questions along the way-this is such a fantastic website/forum!

We are so glad to have you with us.

Sounds like you got some great breeds to enjoy! I've heard nothing but good about Dominiques, so I can't wait to see what you think of them for yourself.

Believe it or not, although I have quite a variety of breeds right now, I've only had a RIR and BO off your list. They are good birds, so I am confident that you'll be quite pleased. Where are you getting your chicks from?

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

I'm really excited about the chooks :) I ordered them from MyPetChicken. There is a hatchery 3 hours south of me but I didn't realize this until I had placed my order-oops! I can't wait for them to get here. My coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors all think I've completely lost my mind but I'm undeterred.

I don't know how I'm going to survive the next three weeks!

MPC is a fabulous place to order from, just so you know. I live an hour and a half from the hatchery that supplies it, and the birds that come from there are spectacular! Please post tons of pictures of your babies when you get them; I know how it is to want to gush about your new little ones, especially if they're your first ever.

As a side note, although the pain of having to wait may be excruciating (believe me, I went through it at the beginning of this month before I got my bantams), you'll survive.

The anticipation makes any length of time seem like an eternity!
