First Timer from the Black Hills, SD!!

Hi everyone! Total newbie in the chicken raising world! Although I did grow up, spending a lot of time on my great grandparent's ranch and I have many fond memories of their chicken coop, collecting eggs and getting chased by some mean ol roosters! Haha
Since then, I have had an aching to raise chickens, to have fresh eggs and maybe meat further down the road.
It is my ultimate goal for my family to completely sustain ourselves. Living in a smaller city, having chickens is a small step toward that goal! Hopefully with ten years or so, we will have our own little ranch!
I currently have three Barred Rock hens (hopefully)!

Wow, I lived in South Dakota many years ago in the Black Hills! Off highway 16A. LOL Very pretty territory up there.
