I am so in awe! I'v got two silkie hens (and one silkie rooster). One wanted nothing to do with her eggs, the other turned into a broody machine. We brought Lucy (broody machine) inside the house in a dog crate (from fellow BYC's advice). I candled her eggs tonight... BABIES! Very neat. Some were "swimming" around, and you could see their feathers. I feel so proud. I just hope they hatch! I put a few eggs under her from my other hen a few days ago (bringing her total number of eggs to 10. I was very worried about the big gap in time in hatching... but now Ms. Independent ("Ethel") is sitting on two eggs! She gathered the golf balls up in the laying box, and put them with her two eggs. I'm hoping I can put the late-hatching eggs under Ethel. I'm also hoping if Ethel's eggs hatch, the babies can go with Lucy's bunch until the remainder of Ethel's hatch. Has anyone used two moms before to hatch all the eggs?? Do the chicks know who their mom is and will they go with other hens?
Thanks so much!
