First-timer in Trouble

Thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds a bit like mine.

Day 26 and no signs of life. We will open the shells tonight and see what's inside. I do see blood vessels in the membranes under the air sack while candeling. My daughter is heart broken. :( But we will try again with local eggs or chicks. Thanks everyone!

I dont know if youve already opened them, but when they're questionable, break a small hole through the air sack, then gradually head down to the chick area. It'd be a bummer to break through a blood vessel on a live chick. If you go through the air sack, you can gradually see how it fared and if signs of life exist, you can pop it back in the incubator and crank up the humidity.

So we did open the eggs on day 26 (or was it 27?). It looks like one was basically fully developed and the other died at day 16 (still had a lot of yolk and maybe some guts). When we candled at day 18 we didn't see any pips or feel any movement or hear any response to tapping. I did take pics but kinda gruesome to post.

Alas. Maybe we will try chicks.

Sorry for the experience.

With you guys being in a big location... maybe you can call around to the various feed stores and see what breeds they have as they are usually different from each other.... and go to the one that has the breeds you are most interested in! Pick a chick that is active and does NOT have pastey butt.

And I never recommend less than 3.

Thanks Eggsighted4Life! We are looking into it. She's really set on Seramas though and they are still relatively rare.
I would be surprised if you find Serama in the feed store... but hey, you never know!

Might be worth it to try and find a breeder. They suddenly come out of the woodwork after I settle for something else.

Of course you may have to deal with cockerels then... but that's true for hatching to.
