I hatched some before but got rid of all of my hens and got stuck with two roos. It was an expirement but had to get rid of hens before they laid.

You should see either veining or if like mine at 10 days there is a dark meat looking spot that floats around as I turn the egg. Daughter said that is probably the eyes as they grow big first.

Good Luck!

Checking in again ...

We candled last night - all my store brought (local free range) eggs were unfertile - exected that.

But out of the 22 eggs from my girls - only 5 are growing.
But 5's better than none!

The pigs had a good feed of eggs today.

Set 12 Light Sussex today and 6 more from my girls.
fingers crossed

Yes Chicky 5 is much better than zero. I have a lot of activity in my bator. Lots of meat masses in eggs, even my beautiful standard blue cochins WOO WOO only set 5 and 4 are growing. Hopefully all will hatch?

I so wish I could find some Light Sussex here in the states that are of quality. And to import them across the pond is aprox $1K per bird so that is out of the question completely.

Maybe find some at the swap meet Sept 19th here. Glad that is after my hatch date or I wouldnt be able to go.

What a beautiful day out...Im gonna make a few protable pens for my meaties. Enjoy the holiday weekened everyone.

oooooh what holiday is it?

It's fathers day here, waiting for the girls to lay more eggs so I can bake DH a cake.

Bator was a bit cool this morning, I think the temp changed added in the new eggs, but all back to normal now. Suppose it didn't help we had a frost

Happy Fathers Day Kiwi Chicky's dad! and more to come!

Well today is the 1/2 way point for me. I guess I will candle today and see what I have thus far. With having 2 bators set up, its nerve racking to say the least. LOL But I cannot wait to see those tiny babies hatch.

You all enjoy your day! Its gonna be a beautiful one here in Michigan.

I've got my fingers crossed for you and will be anxious to know the results! And yes, the weather is almost PERFECT here in MI this weekend. Enjoy it while we have the chance!

I think I learned an important lesson yesterday...I have 11 eggs from my Mille's in the bator and there were 4 that I didnt see any veins or movement from when I candled...

So just to make sure that I wasn'T INCORRECT, (i am only still in my first year of this chicken stuff

) I left those 4 just in case in the hovabator.

Yesterday I heard a noise in the bator and went to see, because I know I should have like 10 more days....one of the bad ones exploded!!!
