CONGRATS! I have a few days yet before I can candle per daughters request. But who knows, I might just go ahead and do it lol

Walkswithdog said the more we candel the more likely to drop one/some. Now Im afraid to pick them up lol bet your husband feels bad. But hope it was one that wasnt viable anyway.

Put a pillow on your lap when you candle.

Big Little Chicken "Put a pillow on your lap when you candle."

Great idea...and probably the best way for me, as I drop everything anyway.

I don't know if I'm referring to us for adding the fan, or the little giant incubator, since I don't know which is causing the problem. We are having major temp problems here. My thermometer/hygrometer will show us the highest/lowest temps and humidity with the touch of a button. I checked it this morning, and it said at some point the temp spiked to 113!!! The lowest was 84, but that could have been when the top was off while turning. All afternoon yesterday, and during the evening the temp was steady showing 99.9-100.9. But this morning when I got up, it was at 97! I called dbf, mom, and asked my son, "did anybody touch the bator!?" All said nope. My babies are probably toast

, but I'll leave them alone for now just in case

Well remember the hen gets off for at least 1/2 hour a day to eat/drink etc so I wouldnt worry about the lower temps too much. Now the 113 might cause an issue. Just wait and see. It all might be good.

I have a smell in the bator when i open it.It smells just like the smell that was in the same bator in March, when I had my first hatch. What does this mean? The eggs in the bator in March harched,so does this mean they are gonna break open to reveal a ball of fluff on Sept. 18?

You are not kidding...I went into the milk house and turned the eggs and wanted so bad to candle but I didnt. I closed it up and walked out. Havent been back to turn again, will in a few hours. Trying to keep myself really busy so I dont mess with them to much.

Also if anyone in Michigan wants some Isa Brown pullets for spring layers, I just ordered 100 and can add to my order so you dont have to buy a whole bunch you dont want/need. I have until Sept 15 to add to my order.

Thanks Daisy, I'm not giving up, no worries about that. I'm not concerned about the drop so much, the spike sure is bothersome though. It must have been for a very short period of time, since all 3 adults in this house are checking on it constantly it seems. My son (11) suffers from insomnia, so that means I'm up alot during the night also, and I end up checking it at least 3 times a night myself. I've been very clear on the rules also, NOBODY BUT ME TOUCHES THE BATOR lol. My dbf touched it the other night, I asked him if he wanted to keep that hand lol, I think he got the point. Although he was the first I called when the temp was low this morning haha.
