First timer!! New to BYC..1st hen broody!!

i am no help with your questions... just wanted to say good luck in that cold NH winter with your hen & eggs i hope you get everything figured out. i used to live in lincoln/woodstock and worked at Loon mtn. i used to love to snowboard. now its kids, chickens and orchids - i have been in hawaii now for over 6 years and will never leave again after last... or err.... i guess it was going on 2 winters now, we went back for a visit - we landed in manchvegas a few days after the bad ice storm. snowed over 2ft. the first weekend - my hawaiian born husband was loving his first time in real deep snow

but after a bit it was time to come home..gladly!! as we are heading into winter now and live at 2,500 ft. above sea level so it will get down to 45 at the coldest pretty much and i am already frozen every night! and its only november. i dislike the cold very much:cool:good thing the beach isnt far away 15 min. drive! i know that the amazing BYC peeps here will be able to help with lots of your questions. they have been very helpful for us!!
sending you some warm wishes for your chickies from hawaii. aloha

Wow I thought everyone answerd your question Sorry you dont feel that we did

Im sorry...didnt mean to offend. Cuz you did help. My big concern is the cold here. We are already down to 25 degree at night. Its is very cold...and I know the Mom will keep them warm...but will she keep them warm when its below 30 degrees in an outside hen house? Should I be warming them with heat lamp when they arrive..or a few days before they come? That whats I really need to be clear with. I dont want to freeze them becuase I didnt know...That would be terrible. Again I am sorry..you were helpful.

It wasn't until this century that people started giving chickens heat at night. They have been in the snow for centuries. Really, don't worry!!! They know how to keep themselves warm. It's 25 here at night too and they do just fine.
