Hello to everyone, this is my first time posting. I am planning to purchase baby chicks but alot of the hatcheries will only do orders for > 25 chicks. My coop will only hold 10. I live in East TN near the Gr8 Smoky Mtns....anyone know of a place I can pick up some baby chicks like at a store or co op ?? Thanks.

Thank you so much that is gr8 information! Awesome, I'm going to get on their websites tonight and order by phone tomorrow. Thanks again :-) We are so excited, and I absolutely love this site. Everyone is such a wealth of gr8 knowledge!

Craig'sList is another good resource for local birds, but the hatcheries have better options if things go badly!

I want to second MyPetChicken.com that is where I got my 7 hens from. Very pleased with them.

Check our local phone book for feed stores. Many of them will have chicks. There are a lot of feed stores within a few miles of my house and many of them will have chicks soon. Some allow you to reserve chicks and others are sold first come first serve. If you call a feed store and they say they will not be selling chicks, ask them if they can tell you any stores that will. I have found that on our area that there are a few specialty garden stores that also sell chicks. This year I plan to get some from two feed stores and also some from a local breeder.

Also watch Craigs List. This is how I found the breeder I am getting some from this year. I went and checked out the portion of his farm that is open to the public to make sure he was legitimate.

I ordered 3 delawares, 3 barred rocks, 1 buff orpington, and 3 easter eggers. I am so nervous and so excited at the same time. I'll post pics when they arrive around Feb. 22nd. I got one of those chicken stagecoach tractors so I think they only fit 10 big birds so I stopped at 10. Very hard to stop though and now I totally understand wanting more birds! didn't get roosters though, all hens for now. I do want roosters eventually...........thanks again.
