Last night I remembered I was supposed to take out the turning ring (but it had stopped turning automatically by itself on schedule, love that digital program stuff!!) and put down a paper towel. So, very carefully, I opened up the 'bator, took out each of the 7 eggs and set them down EXACTLY the same way they had been laying in the Brinsea...... and I was startled by the sound of a very faint "peep." OMG. OMG. OMG! At least one of them IS alive!!
I don't know which egg(s) did it, but as I put them all back EXACTLY the same way, I heard two more peeps!
AND THIS MORNING THERE IS A PIP!!
As I watch the incubator, I see the water in the reservoir wiggle every now and then, so that must mean there is MOVEMENT, too!
Oh lordy don't let me kill whatever chick(s) are alive in there!
....and although I didn't call in sick today like I wanted to, I DID ask for the day off "for personal reasons" and my supervisor said okay. (I called her about an hour before work.... left a message on her work cell phone.... she called back and granted my request.)
So I'm home all day today - and also Sat & Sun - so I have 3 days to watch and wait and agonize over this incubation/hatching process!
I did my first hatch ever in a Brinsea Mini Advance, is that what you have Gryeyes? It worked great, have some Lavendar Orp eggs in there just now, am afraid for them as not once, but twice the kittens knocked the plug out of the wall and they cooled some before I discovered it!! I duct taped the plug onto the wall outlet after that. I am in lockdown now and it's like being in labour!! Good luck!
It's been a year or so... no, wait,,, an hour? maybe? And I was staring intently at that pip which hasn't changed at all.
I heard a peep - THROUGH the plastic incubator cover and over the sound of the 'bator doing whatever it does that makes noise at this stage.
I HEARD A PEEP! There might not have been any action on that pip, but there's a live chick inside an egg in my incubator!
I have to go outside and talk to my chickens for a while.
Oh, and I quit smoking real cigarettes a week ago, and am using one of those electronic cigarettes, so I'll take that with me and I bet I'll wear its battery down FAST today.
I can hardly believe it: a peep! A little soft peepy sound! OMG.
(Lordy, I'm gonna be 57 later this month, what a doofus I feel like right now! )

Okay, just to tease you a little bit, here is what you're going to see:
I love my Brinsea Mini Advance! Just keep an eye on the humidity as they start to hatch -- mine got too high with my first hatch and we lost 4 chicks. Second time around, I'd move them to the brooder every couple of chicks or so...
