The Jersey Shore
Hello to all from the Jersey 'burbs. (Yes, we can have chickens on my cul-de-sac!) We're on our second season with a new batch of Easter Eggers (supposed to be three pullets, but I'll be darned if one's not a rooster) and a gigantic blue Cochin pullet (my 10-year-old's 4H project). Last year's coop houses 5 bantam feather foots. All of us (three kids, two "grownups") have been enjoying them immensely. Even our bird-hunting dogs (just pets here) have adjusted to having chickens run circles around them.

I've been visiting your site for awhile, but now I have a question I can't find an answer to, so I've decided to join. We have a buff bantam Brahma who seems to be having eye trouble. She's running around with her eyes half shut, and when we pick her up, she just closes them both and stubbornly won't open them. It is the peak of the pollen storm here, so I was wondering if anyone's ever heard of chickens suffering from eye allergies. She seems is perfect health otherwise. Any treatment ideas? None of the other birds seem affected. Thanks so much!

I don't know what could be wrong with her, but I would rinse her eyes a couple times a day with a warm paper towel, or washcloth. Are they crusted?
