Hi everyone! I just joined BYC. I’ve never had chickens before but have done a bunch of research and have been planning for years. I usually have to travel a lot for work which is unsuitable for chickens but with the unusual events this year it looks like I’ll get a very welcome break from travel. It’s chicken time! Me and my girls - 16 and 13 - are getting layers Wednesday. Picking friendly breeds over production layers, so 1 buff orpington, 1 barred rock, 1 silver laced wyandotte, 1 black astralorp. Also getting a pair of Buff ducks next week. We have a good bit of acreage with a stream, and we’re in central PA on a mountain top. It says we’re in growing zone 6A but its much more like 5A - buddies from the north side of the great lakes have similar weather. I really appreciate all the good input from this site!
