First timer

You manage the heat from a heat lamp by moving it closer or farther from the brooder. Take temperature at floor level(brooder). The first week of life chicks should be at 95 degrees, each week thereafter lower the temp. 5 degrees by raising the lamp until thermometer shows that reading.

Always have the lamp heat one half of the brooder so if chicks are too warm they will move to the other side.

Be sure the lamp is securely attached in at least two ways so it will not fall unto the chicks. Also it should come with a bulb guard to keep chicks away. They will try out their wings quickly and fly to the top of the brooder so it should have a secure top with wire mesh - so they receive good ventilation.

Going to give it my best, We bought a mix of chicks, just 6 of them , i have had them for one week now,changing food and water twice a day. we are going to make them a brooder this weekend. ,they all seem fine now. I wonder what they will look like when they get big?here is a pic of them,1 week ago. i am going to take a new pic, this weekend. thanks for looking, ttys.

New brooder , the girls lov. My husband made it, doors open on top also, in front. Easy clean up. I dusted each one. They like har boiled eggs now.
