We are a family of 6 + a beagle (four daughters 2-17). Got the coop set up last week by a cool guy on craigslist. Got the feeder, waterer, food and pine shavings from Sam's downtown feed. Ordered the chicks today from Dare2Dream Farms in Lompoc, CA and they will be delivered this Friday! We ordered 2 week old chicks: 2 each Black Australorps, Black Sexlinks and Easter Eggers.

Looking forward to raising these birds organically. Interested in learning more about what you do to get omega 3 rich eggs. Maybe its just the feed but I think its the extra stuff we feed them too plus their foraging. Planning on giving them lots of free ranging time in our yard and hope the Beagle thinks they are friends not food.

ok, thanks for the advice. I think it will be a lot of management figuring this out. Luckily we have a separate fenced area outside and a crate inside for the dog so we should be able to keep them separate when they aren't supervised.

Welcome to BYC, and good luck with your chicks. The beagle will have to be convinced that they are not squeaky toys.
