Hi, we JUST FINALLY got our turkeys in the mail:D, but i feel bad for one.It has been running back and forth and peeping for about an hour! He keeps freaking out but immediatly goes quiet when you hold him, i think he wants his mom but we have had him and his,(or her) 18 little friends for a week and this is the first time it has happened! Any advice?

P.S.Love love LOVE turkeys!

Be sure to check that this little guy/gal is eating and drinking, and that the heat isn't too much (that it can get out from under the brooder lamp if necessary). If everything seems to check out fine.... then you likely just have one very needy/clingy little poult on your hands. Turkeys can be very friendly and love attention from you. Mine are quiet all day long as long as they don't see me, if they do it's constant peeping, until I come and talk to them/hold them, but it starts back up as soon as I leave the room (only lasts a few minutes though and they quiet back down)! Enjoy your babies!

Thanks for the response...I'm poultryrox11's mom ...yes, the first night I was just peeping back at them as I do with my chickens and ducks as well. One decided it was DETERMINED to run the entire length of the brooder (7 feet) peeping over and over.We finally took it out and it fell asleep in our hands! As soon as we put it back in, it started over again. This little poult did this for roughly 3 hours!I ordered 18 from Cackle...8 Narragansetts, 6 Bourbon Reds and 4 Blue Slates...they threw in an extra Bourbon so altogether there are 19 poults. It's been one week and all are healthy and lively.I have been putting vitamin/electrolytes in the water and I have 2 heat lamps suspended above the brooder. The temp is at 100 degrees and all seem fine to go wherever they want in there.I couldn't get the 28 % protein feed but got 24 % and they all look well. Now if I can successfully raise them on the ground,I'll be happy.I plan on brooding them for 8 weeks to be sure the immune systems are developed.Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I had a turkey poult that kept peeping ALL NIGHGT LONG !!!!!!!!!!! I took one of my winter knit hats and placed her inside of it and placed a small towel over the knit hat. She slept like a baby under my arm pit. When it was time for me to go to work, I kept the poult in the knit hat and placed it in the brooder box. I left an opening so that she could get out to eat and drink and get back in. I moved the heat lamp farther away from the brooder box because the knit hat gave her all the warmth she needed. The poult was just lonely and spoiled rotten. When more poults were born, I placed them in with her and the peeping stopped. I'm not sure why your poult continues to peep. Maybe it's just more needy than the rest.

If you raise a baby turkey up with chickens would they get along?? (I haven't bought a turkey yet but I'd like to raise it with my chickens)

Yes you haft to be rite there with it untill it grows.mine get along really well but some people have problems

the longer they stay off the ground the better. last year was my first year raising poults. i had them in a cardboard box inside the house for a few weeks then put them in a wire rabbit cage in the garage until they were almost 2 months old. then i put them on grass and moved it every couple days where they could see the chickens and other turkeys but not get to them. when they were 2 1/2 months old i finally turned them lose. only lost one and that was when i introduced some other poults that were sick (i didnt know it until it was too late)
