First weird egg + ewww

One of my new laying girls produced this just now. I have no roosters , everyone is on Texas Natural Elite layer crumble with oyster shell on the side. The shell is extremely fragile. I know new layers can have strange eggs, but what is that weird yucky stuff? I picked it off with chopsticks for a better look at it, but still have no clue what I'm looking at.

It looks like it could be egg membrane.

I opened the egg to see if anything was weird inside. Looks normal. The odd stuff on the plate is seasonings. I was eating boiled eggs when DH brought that freaky egg over to me.

It could be either intestinal shed or tissue shed from the sides of the oviduct. Both are harmless and probably won't occur again.

The thin shell bears keeping an eye on, though. Try to monitor her eggs, and if the next two are also thin shelled, she could benefit from a few days on a calcium supplement to augment the oyster shell. This is what I recommend as it is digested easily and quickly so it goes to work very fast. Give one pill per day directly into her beak for two or three days.
