First Welsummer eggs

We finally got our first Welsummer eggs yesterday. We got our Welsummer chicks last April, and they both laid their first egg on the same day. Nice to have the dark eggs to go along with all the other colors. The "freckling" adds a nice touch, too.

We are still waiting for the Barnevelders to lay, but don't expect their eggs to be as dark as the Welsumers'.

The Welsummer eggs are the dark brown ones in the middle.

Nice eggs! I like eggs that are speckled, too.
They look to be just a little darker than my Red Sex Link hens from McMurray. I've wanted to try some Welsummers, but other breeds have taken priority.

We got them from a local breeder who also supplies all of our other chicks. I think he does local pick up only, though.

Have you noticed that it takes the Barnevelders a long time to mature?
