Fishbiotic Amoxicillin

Can this be given to birds, and if so, what is the dosage?

I'd like to have some to keep on hand, since I'm out of the stuff the vet gave me. I don't want to spend money on it though if it won't work.

I would not waste my money on penicillin, and not sure I'd buy the 500 mg amoxicillin because it's too hard to dose smaller birds.

The amoxicillin dose my vet has me use is 125 mg/kg, which is 57 mg per pound.

Shop around, that's pretty expensive:

She has 250 mg amoxicillin capsules for a dollar a pill. My bird weighs probably one or two pounds.
My dad was going to pick it up in just a bit here, should I have him wait?

Will it help with the swelling/pain he has or is it different?

What's going on with your bird? Can you get an accurate weight?

If you are going to be giving medications like this for smaller birds, I suggest that you get a suspension syrup so that you can dose accurately.

You would take a bunch of capsules, empty them into a mortar, grind them with a pestle, then add some amount of the suspension syrup to make something like this:

Then the dose would be:
1 / 2.2 x 125 /50 = ~1.15 ml per pound

Ohhh ok.
He sprained his leg somehow and is limping pretty bad. His hock joint is swollen and warm on his left leg. I have some amoxicillin left from last fall from the vet, but it's only two doses and I think the doses are the wrong amount too.
