Chirping
Hi,
Sorry to jump the gun and not introduce myself, I will be doing so asap... Until now I've been enjoying lurking. My partner and I are currently raising 6 little chicks, one of which I'm almost sure is a rooster, but I digress from topic...
They are very happy and very healthy. 6 weeks old now and looking like little mini chickens which is so cute.
Recently though I've noticed a very distinct ocean smell in their pen. Currently they are in the middle of being inside/outside chickens and are spending a lot of time outdoors in a different pen, I don't notice the smell out there.
It's not a foul smell exactly but it is slightly strange and off putting. The indoor cage is cleaned at least once a day, usually more and doesn't smell after cleaning. Also the fishy smell is back as soon as the chickens are placed back in the pen, however they themselves don't smell.
I've read about fishy eggs being linked to food and after some investigation have noticed that said smell is strongest in their food and water dish, however the smell doesn't linger after cleaning, nor does their crumble smell ocean-y whilst in the bag.
Their feed is also a quality organic crumble and I can't see canola listed anywhere on the ingredients.
Has anyone else had this issue? Think it's any cause for concern?
