Hey! So we just got our new girls to start laying. I can't remember if our other ducks (5yrs old) laid small eggs at first.

Just curious when a duck will start to lay bigger eggs or is there a breed that lays smaller eggs?
I don't know which one of my new girls (hatch 3/11) it is but it's been a week of laying cute eggs. They are getting a little bigger but thin and long.

(I'm not concerned about it just curious. Picture shows normal duck egg on top and the young girls egg below but they don't look as small as they are irl)

New girls are; Welsh harlequin, Cayuga, Runners, Silver appleyard, blue swedish, khaki Campbell

Eggs tend to be smaller when they start and slowly increase in size. The second and third season eggs tend to be bigger.

I would assume it helps to have smaller eggs for the first few months to slowly stretch out the reproductive tract so they don't prolapse.
